El Calafate: Perito Moreno Glacier & Optional Boat Cruise

1.Perito Moreno Glacier & Optional Boat Cruise

★★★★★★★★★★4.7 · 2,586 reviews · 8 hours · from $80Our pick

Travel from El Calafate to Perito Moreno Glacier in Los Glaciares National Park with hotel pickup and a Spanish-English guide. You get about three hours for the boardwalks, plus an optional one-hour boat ride to the ice wall. Guides such as Tobias, Noela, and Sebastian have been praised for clear explanations and smooth transport.

“We had a great tour around the Perito Moreno glacier. The guide was very knowledgeable and explained a lot during the trip there. We got picked up on time and then got transferred to the bus that would take us to the park. The boat ride was fun, but it was super busy and crowded, so much so that it sometimes was hard to find a place outside the boat to view the glacier. You then get some free time to explore the walkways and gawk at the glaciers, which was great.”

El Calafate: Perito Moreno Glacier Trekking Tour and Cruise

2.Perito Moreno Glacier Trekking Tour and Cruise

★★★★★★★★★★4.8 · 805 reviews · 5 - 11 hours · from $396

Walk for about an hour on Perito Moreno Glacier with crampons, cross Brazo Rico by boat, and explore the forest and boardwalks of Los Glaciares National Park. English and Spanish guides lead small groups, with names such as Mariana, Marcelo, and Nicolas praised for clear instruction and patient support.

“Excellent excursion! From custom pick up from our accommodations to a nice, smaller-sized group, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We initially wanted to do the Big Ice tour but were disqualified from it due to age. We were disappointed, but in all honesty, this one was the perfect amount time on the glacier (~1 hour). We wouldn’t have wanted to be on it for much longer but all in all enjoyed around 3 hours close to the glacier where we could watch it calving from near the glacier hike start area. Fantastic job by our guides…..thank you for an amazing day!”

Ushuaia: Penguin Watching Tour by Catamaran

4.Penguin Watching Tour by Catamaran

★★★★★★★★★★4.5 · 439 reviews · 5 hours · from $180

Spend five hours aboard a warm, modern catamaran from Ushuaia, watching sea lions, cormorants, seabirds, and Magellanic and Papuan penguins. A bilingual guide provides live commentary, with audio support in four languages. You view the penguins from the boat rather than walking on Martillo Island, but the catamaran pulls close to shore.

“Fun and well-organised excursion to see sea lions, cormorants and penguins from up close. We were very lucky and even saw a humpback whale. The only negative/annoying part of this journey were two ladies of the organising agency who took pictures of the passengers. We wanted to enjoy the beautiful animals and they were shouting for people to make room in order for them to take there pics which could then be bought. Very annoying. Otherwise everything was great (even the coffee on board!).”

5.Catamaran Sailing to Penguin Island

★★★★★★★★★★4.4 · 436 reviews · 5h 30m · from $92

Spend about five and a half hours aboard a catamaran from Ushuaia, sailing through the Beagle Channel to Martillo Island. You’ll see sea lions, cormorants, historic wreck sites, Chilean views, and summer penguin colonies from the boat. English and Spanish guides provide commentary, with a café, bathrooms, and outdoor decks onboard.

“Good activity overall to see the sea lions and penguins. The boat gets really close to them so it’s perfect for pictures. The boat itself is clean, modern and spacious, with a café on board. There’s seating upstairs and downstairs which is comfortable, and outside space to view at the stops. Staff all super friendly. -Downside is the price was expensive for what it was. -There could have been another stop, maybe at a local fisherman’s village on the way back, as the way back was long. -Could not hear what the tour guide was saying over the microphone, sharing history etc with us. It seemed only one speaker out…”

Tigre: River Delta Panoramic Boat Tour

8.River Delta Panoramic Boat Tour

★★★★★★★★★★4.4 · 294 reviews · 1 hour · from $18Best value

Board Sturla Viajes at Tigre’s fluvial station for a one-hour panoramic cruise through the Luján, Carapachay, Angostura, Sarmiento, and Espera rivers. An English, Spanish, and Portuguese audioguide explains the island lifestyle as you pass homes, schools, churches, and the Delta Tierra reserve. The open upper deck gives the best views, though seats can fill quickly.

“The boat was on time. It was nice that the deck had enough space for all the passengers and provided good views. Unfortunately it wasn't a very scenic boat trip - this trip is basically going past hundreds of houses that look like they're about to flood and Tigre is an ugly, brown river. In terms of logistics everything was fine, but I don't think it's a great tourist attraction :).”

That's why it was surprising to me when found out that I won't be allowed to enter the van and visit the town! It's been frustrating anyway cause others looked at me as I were an alien ! Anyway, you could have told me before the trip begins ! On the other hand, the Naval crew was awesome!”
